"If we are as a nation concerned with energy, then our consideration should be a national energy policy that is not predicated on crude oil 50 years into the future. We need to get to it, and I think Barack Obama is very clear in that regard."
Commentators:
Wick Allison, Publisher of the Conservative National Review
"I now see that Obama is almost the ideal candidate for this moment in American history. I disagree with him on many issues. But those don't matter as much as what Obama offers, which is a deeply conservative view of the world."
Andrew Sullivan, Columnist and Author of The Conservative Soul
"The Obama candidacy is about ending a war—not so much the war in Iraq . . . but the war within America that has prevailed since Vietnam and that shows dangerous signs of intensifying, a nonviolent civil war that has crippled America at the very time the world needs it most. It is a war about war—and about culture and about religion and about race. And in that war, Obama—and Obama alone—offers the possibility of a truce."
Michael Smerconish, Columnist and Talk Radio Host"Barack Obama is correct in saying the front line in that battle is not Iraq, it's the Afghan-Pakistan border. Osama bin Laden crossed that border from Tora Bora in December 2001, and we stopped pursuit."
Christopher Buckley, Columnist and son of William F. Buckley
"I have known John McCain personally since 1982. I wrote a well-received speech for him. . . This campaign has changed John McCain. It has made him inauthentic."
David Friedman, Economist and son of Milton Friedman
"I do not think he is going to turn out to be an orthodox liberal. . . [He is] trying to construct a new version of what 'left' means."
Susan Eisenhower, Granddaughter of President Eisenhower & President of the Eisenhower Group
"Obama can assure the world and Americans that this great nation's impulses are still free, open, fair and broad-minded."
